In Australia during 2014: The kidnapping/abduction victimisation rate decreased to a five year low of 2.3 victims per 100,000 persons; The decrease in the number of kidnapping/abduction victims was largest for persons aged between 10 and 14 years (down 47% or 51 victims from 2013); Females accounted for a slightly larger proportion of all kidnapping/abduction victims (57% or 315 victims); Private dwellings were the most common location for kidnapping/abduction to occur (39% or 214 victims); and Just over half (51%) of all kidnapping/abduction investigations (280 victims) were finalised by police within 30 days.
